Johnson Statement on the Senate's Failure to Act to Raise the Minimum Wage

U.S. Senator Tim Johnson (D-SD) today issued the following statement on the Senate's failure to act to the raise the federal minimum wage for hard working men and women. A procedural vote to move to debate raising the minimum wage failed.

"I am disappointed by the Senate's failure to raise the federal minimum wage for hard working men and women. Raising the minimum wage would mean that over 60,000 South Dakota workers and almost 28 million working Americans would get a raise. Raising the minimum wage would give full time workers a livable wage and a fair shot at the American dream.

In South Dakota we still have the opportunity to raise the minimum wage for those hard working 60,000 South Dakotans. I urge folks to support Initiated Measure 18 on the ballot in November to raise South Dakota's minimum wage to help working South Dakotans and their families."
